Robert T. Boro is the driving force behind quality control and assurance as the Senior Project Manager and Senior Bridge Engineer at HBM Engineering Group. With a career spanning over 38 years, he brings a wealth of experience and expertise in all facets of roadway maintenance, bridge design, construction, and maintenance.

In his role, Mr. Boro is responsible for preparing and approving construction bid documents for a range of transportation projects, including highway/roadway, drainage, traffic, bridge, and railroad projects. He ensures that these projects meet the rigorous standards and requirements set forth by agencies such as IDOT, CDOT, ISTHA, CTA, METRA, and local municipalities and authorities. His responsibilities also include project management, administration, and coordination with clients and consultants, where he provides invaluable insight on the technical aspects of projects. Moreover, Mr. Boro dedicates his time to mentoring junior staff, nurturing the next generation of engineers.

Mr. Boro’s skill set extends to providing support for the structural inspection, planning, analysis, and design aspects of transportation projects. He’s well-versed in the design and maintenance of complex structures, such as Precast Prestressed Concrete I-beams, box deck beams, steel rolled beams, welded and built-up steel plate girders, and trusses.

Prior to joining HBM Engineering Group, Robert T. Boro served as the Project Manager with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) District One, where he managed various consultants and an in-house design group responsible for preparing complete contract plans and specifications for bridge repair, rehabilitation, and reconstruction contracts.

He also held the position of Maintenance Design Engineer at IDOT in the Region One Schaumburg Office, where he directed and monitored the efforts of a Contracts Design squad and ensured that maintenance project plans were completed promptly and in line with structural theory, standards, specifications, and policies.

Mr. Boro’s impressive journey also took him to the Springfield Central Office Bureau of Bridges and Structures, where he served as a Repair Plans Group Leader. In this role, he directed and monitored the efforts of a Bridge Repair team and ensured that structures were repaired in accordance with structural theory, standards, specifications, and policies.
