HBM’s role included the renovation and remodeling of an existing four levels residence building and the addition of four floors (15,700 square feet). The new addition included dining hall, kitchen, chapel, residence rooms, and fire-rated stair in the four-story area, and community spaces and administrative spaces in the one-and three-story areas.

In the existing four-story building, a fire-rated stairway, new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems were incorporated to serve refurbished residence rooms and community spaces. The new addition floor area is approximately 14,200 square feet. In the four-story areas, a 12” hollow-core precast floor system was utilized and supported by steel beams which transferred the loads to the columns and foundations. In the one-and three-story areas, steel joists with 5 ½” composite concrete slab floor system was utilized and supported by steel beams which transferred the loads to the columns and foundations. A Finite Element Model of the structure was developed by using SAP 2000 to reflect the true geometry of structure. Beams and columns were modeled by line elements and beam ends were released to simulate shear connections wherever needed. Additionally, a construction stage frame was modeled to reflect the stability condition of the structure during the construction stage.
