Description of Structures
East Lake Avenue over the West Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River (S.N. 016-1128):
The bridge is a 1-span structure consisting of prestressed box beams with a concrete deck. The box beam structure is supported by reinforced concrete abutments.The bridge has an overall length of 53-feet 4-inches and an overall width of 68 feet.
Kedzie Avenue over Northeast Railroad Corp (S.N. 016-3218):
The bridge is a 19-span structure consisting of concrete-encased steel beams in Spans 1 through 9 and Spans 13 through 19 and steel beams in Spans 10 through 12 with a concrete deck. The structure is supported by reinforced concrete piers and abutments. The bridge has an overall length of 1560 feet and a width varying between 68 feet and 80 feet.
Hintz Road over Echo Lake (S.N. 016-3226):
The bridge is a 20-span structure consisting of a reinforced concrete deck supported by reinforced concrete piers. The bridge has an overall length of 503 feet and an overall width of 71-feet 1-inch.
Central Avenue over Sanitary Drainage and Ship Canal (S.N. 016-3240):
The bridge is a 33-span structure consisting of steel beams with a concrete deck. The structure is supported by reinforced concrete piers and abutments. The bridge has an overall length of 3,430 feet and an overall width varying between 65 feet and 89 feet.
Central Avenue over ICG Railroad & Ground (S.N. 016-3241):
The bridge is a 6-span structure consisting of steel beams and diaphragms with a concrete deck supported by reinforced concrete piers and abutments. The bridge has an overall length of 454 feet and an overall width of 89 feet.
Barrypoint Road over Des Plaines River (S.N. 016-6800):
The bridge is a 3-span structure consisting of PPC I-beams with a concrete deck. The structure is supported by reinforced concrete piers and abutments. The bridge has an overall length of 224 feet and an overall width of 40 feet.
Crawford Avenue over Cal-Sag Channel (S.N. 016-0748):
The bridge is a 4-span structure consisting of steel trusses, beams, stringers, and diaphragms with a concrete deck. The structure is supported by reinforced concrete piers and abutments. The bridge has an overall length of 335-feet 2-inches and an overall width of 61-feet 6-inches.
104th Avenue over Cal-Sag Channel (S.N. 016-3018):

Francisco Avenue over Cal-Sag Channel (S.N. 016-3210):
The bridge is a 5-span structure consisting of steel trusses, beams, stringers, and diaphragms with a concrete deck. The structure is supported by reinforced concrete piers and abutments. The bridge has an overall length of 364 feet and an overall width of 44 feet.

2. Biennial and Fracture Critical Member Inspections:
In addition to the biennial inspections, in-depth visual inspections were conducted for the four fracture crucial truss bridges. Non-destructive testing was performed at the Ridgeland structure (016-3025) on the butt welds located at the plate thickness transition of the floorbeam bottom flange.
3. Bridge Rating:
Structural plans provided by the Cook County Highway Department were studied to obtain the as-built geometry and framing. A field inspection was performed to assess the existing conditions including the deteriorated beams. A MathCAD file was created to obtain the controlling rating factors for the in-service deteriorated condition.
