Description of Work

Phase I
Field inspection and evaluation, alternative studies, and an estimate of probable cost for the viaduct and the four retaining walls.

A BCR was prepared and submitted to the Bureau of Bridges at the City of Chicago Department of Transportation.

Preparation of the TS&L plans.

Field and laboratory investigation of the Northeast retaining wall structure as a basis for making the decision to rehabilitate or completely replace the wall. The work included coring, compressive strength testing, Hardened air-void system parameters (Petrographic examination) and chloride concentration across the depth of the wall.

A final report was submitted to the city

Phase II
Includes the preparation of plans, specifications and contract documents for:

The replacement of the Oakwood Boulevard Viaduct

Rehabilitation and Modifications for the four retaining walls and the approaches including all necessary structural work that may be required either because of condition or to meet geometric requirements

A BCR was prepared and submitted to the Bureau of Bridges at the City of Chicago Department of Transportation.

The HBM team’s responsibilities included

  • Preparation of the BCR, TS plans; cost estimates; plan development outline; structure report; and field and laboratory investigation of the Northeast Retaining Wall.
  • Analysis; design; structural final plans; special provisions and quantities for the piers, abutments, abutments wing walls and four retaining walls.Performing Quality Assurance/Quality Control for this project. Specific areas addressed in the
    QA/QC program includes standards and documents, document control, technical review, quality records, and training.
