Description of ProjectStructural Design of Approach Structures and Stairs
HBM Engineering Group, LLC performed the following work for the CDOT as a subconsultant for AECOM. The pedestrian bridge links Bronzeville to the Lakefront crossing over Lake Shore Drive and Railroad tracks.
The bridge will join the new William Davis Park west of the drive in Oakland with the Lakefront Trail east of the drive in Burnham Park. It will also provide access to the new Oakwood Beach.
The approach structures include the outer portions of the structure which cross over the recreational parks on each side of Lake Shore Drive and railroad. The main structure will be supported by a single-deck rib below the center of the deck. These pipes will be designed to run continuously from both approaches.
HBM work included assistance with the TS&L and the preparation of the Final plans, specifications, and PSE Estimate for the structure. Finite element analysis was used to model the approach structure using a finite element analysis software. The analysis included the superstructure and foundations.
